'96 Bm sent a letter that she wouldn't take ss to the
airport. We received it the day of his flight.
Dh's wonderfulexgirlfriend, mother of his daughter,
agreed to take ss to the airport for bm.
Dh called bm. The phone rang 8 times. A man
answered. It sounded like ss's maternal grandfather. Dh said,
"Is (bm) there?" The man said, "There's no one here by
that name. Dh said, "Are you sure?" The man said,
"I'm sure. What number were you trying to reach?" Dh
stated bm's #. The man said, "You've got the wrong #." Dh
replied ok and hung up.
Dh called back, and received the answering
machine as usual.
Ss missed another weekend with his dad.
The phone bill confirmed it was the correct # both
times.
The incident was mentioned in the court papers.
Altho it never became an issue, the
grandfather seemed very concerned about the possibility of it coming up
in court.

'98 I took ss to urgent care for fractured finger.
In triage the nurse grew increasingly angry repeating, "This kid does not belong on
Ritalin!" I finally explained that I'm the stepmom, and we have the
same disagreement with his mom.
Ss listened and didn't say a word. He went home and
informed bm he wouldn't be taking Ritalin anymore.
She angrily blamed dh
for convincing ss that he doesn't need Ritalin (not true). She
told the evaluator that ss didn't take Ritalin anymore cuz he
"won" the argument.
Now I found that hard to understand. My
teenagers don't make important decisions for their own life by
"winning" an argument with me. Ss finished the schoolyear with
2 D's.
Summer '99 dh gets custody. Ss starts out the
school year with 2 D's. He finishes the rest of the year with A's and
B's. His new teachers can't get over the huge improvement in him
over the year.
